Join us for an exciting workshop, Inside the Mind of a Successful Medical Interpreter, on July 12. Participants will earn 0.2 CEUs for this two-hour session. This workshop explores the world of medical interpreting and the unique challenges interpreters face. Do you ever find it difficult to understand the language and terminology used by doctors and nurses when working with Deaf clients? This session is designed to build your confidence, strengthen your skills, and help you succeed in medical interpreting settings.

Upon completing this workshop, participants will gain practical, proven strategies to confidently prepare for medical interpreting assignments before, during, and after each encounter. They will develop a strong understanding of common and complex medical scenarios, along with essential terminology used in real-world healthcare settings. This workshop is designed to cultivate a professional interpreting mindset, empowering participants to approach every assignment with clarity, confidence, and readiness.

Instructor: Lamar J. Ray BS CDI

Lamar is an interpreter and instructor with 27 years of experience, including roles as a DI/CDI interpreter. He is a native of Buffalo, NY, where he attended St. Mary's School for the Deaf (SMSD). He holds a BS from RIT in Psychology/Sociology/Deaf Studies, an Advanced Certificate in TESOL, and Certification in Deaf Blind Interpreting. His teaching expertise spans ASL and Deaf Studies at various institutions, including SUNY Fredonia, Brockport, and Bedford High School (NH).
Furthermore, he has co-taught Ethics, medical, and Legal interpreter training at
Holyoke Community College (HCC) and provided training at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Manchester. He currently serves as an Interpreting/ASL lab instructor at the University of Northern Colorado.
