Join CCSLI’s 16-Week accelerated sign language interpreter training!

Our comprehensive program is designed for working interpreters who have not yet attended a formal interpreter training program, or those that would simply like to refresh their skills. This course provides an immersive, fast-paced curriculum that prepares participants for the NIC (National Interpreter Certification) and EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) evaluations. Through a combination of classroom instruction, practical exercises, and real-world interpreting experiences, working interpreters can enhance their skills and knowledge to excel in the field of sign language interpreting. ** Purchase of the book “So You Want to Be an Interpreter (5th Edition) is required.   

Objectives:

This course is designed to prepare working professionals for certification, exams, and career opportunities in sign language interpretation. Our program includes modules on advanced ASL grammar, ethical decision-making, cultural competency, and specialized interpreting scenarios. INCLUDED IN THE COURSE:

ASL CHAT WITH DEAF MENTORS:  Despite all your training and hard work do you still struggle with reception?  Would you like to expand your vocabulary and improve your fluidity? Our two hour weekly ASL Chat gives you the opportunity to learn from Deaf mentors with diverse backgrounds and a variety of signing styles. You can also join our Collaborative Practice Room where you can enjoy guided interpreting practice with a Deaf mentor and peers. Chat, ask Deaf individuals questions, and be mentors in a safe and supportive environment. 

Thursdays 4pm – 6pm PST | Jan 15th – May 7th 2026 

SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER SKILLS EVALUATION (SLI-SE): This evaluation is designed to provide both individual interpreters and prospective employers with a basic yet realistic assessment of an interpreter’s skill set. Interpreters, who have not taken a certification test or have yet to pass can determine if they are ready to test or if there has been enough improvement to warrant testing again. Evaluation results will be sent via email and will indicate at which skill level our evaluators consider the interpreter to be performing at.

CEU’s for RID are available for our RID members through the PINRA process.  We will connect you with our sponsor. Additionally, we can provide the needed documents for BEI members collecting CEU’s.

Instructor: Ronald Thomas

Ronald is a RID/NAD Certified Deaf Interpreter, and Deaf Heritage speaker.

He has accumulated a diverse portfolio in many fields in the role of a CDI in the medical field, as well as at state conferences, and sight translation. In 2019, he trained at the Protactile from Deafblind Interpreter Institute. Up to today, he continues to practice his profession as an CDI for the Deaf community in the medical field, as well as at state conventions.

Instructor: Dustin Yaeger BA

Dustin is a Bi-cultural Deaf adult whose first and primary language is ASL and as a result, he brings the important perspective of being a consumer of interpreting services to mentoring and training!

He has worked as a translator in New York on projects that include the translation of science, history and social studies publications. He holds a bachelors degree in English and is a member of the Conference of Interpreters Trainers. In addition to Teaching ASL, Dustin has worked as a Deaf Interpreter and Interpreter Mentor with CCSLI INC. Since 2022, he served as CCSLI’s Director of Education and is now the Academic Program Coordinator for the CCSLI Interpreter Training and Assessment Center.

Instructor: Angela Casanave, NIC, Ed:K-12

Angela comes to CCSLI Center with over 20 years of experience in educational, community, VRS, and trilingual interpreting.

Her work across South America, the U.S., and Central Europe brings a unique international perspective. She is passionate about interpreter development and has recently contributed to Croatian Sign Language educational materials and training initiatives—efforts that reflect her ongoing commitment to elevating the field and supporting interpreters around the globe.
