The Summer Series is designed with something for everyone! This can include; ITP students and graduates, those who are working hard to achieve success with the EIPA, BEI or NIC, as well as RID certified individuals needing Professional Studies CEU’s (in the form of PINRA’s)! In an effort to support these individuals, CCSLI presents their annual Summer Series! All of the below sessions total  28 hours of training (only 20 hours can be used toward your CEU’s) but are being offered as one incredible low priced package.

ASL Chat with Deaf Language Mentors– EVERY MONDAY from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM PDT (California Time)

Expand Your Knowledge – EVERY
WEDNESDAY
from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM PDT (California Time)

June 11-July 30, 2025 (Total of 8 hours) Topics discussed will include: Creating a Successful Interpreting Business;  Eye Gaze – Application in Interpreting; NIC Performance Prep; EIPA Performance Prep; VRI Strategies for Clear, Reliable Communication; Non Manuals Matter: The Meaning on your Face; Cruise Interpreting 101; and The Power of Classifiers

 

Refining Our Work – EVERY SATURDAY from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM PDT (California Time)

June 14 – July 26, 2025 (Total of 7 hours) Topics discussed will include: CDI and Hearing Team: Power in Partnership;  Touch, Trust and Technique: An Introduction to DeafBlind Interpreting; Why Utilize Head Movements in ASL Interpreting;  Beyond the Code: Living Ethical Standards in Every Assignment; Mastering Platform Interpreting with a CDI; EIPA Written Test: Strategies and Practice; and Empowering Interpreters and Agencies to Utilize CDI’s

Instructor: Dustin Yaeger BA

Dustin is a Bi-cultural Deaf adult whose first and primary language is ASL and as a result, he brings the important perspective of being a consumer of interpreting services to mentoring and training!

He has worked as a translator in New York on projects that include the translation of science, history and social studies publications. He holds a bachelors degree in English and is a member of the Conference of Interpreters Trainers. In addition to Teaching ASL, Dustin has worked as a Deaf Interpreter and Interpreter Mentor with CCSLI INC. Since 2022, he served as CCSLI’s Director of Education and is now the Academic Program Coordinator for the CCSLI Interpreter Training and Assessment Center.

Instructor: Gail K Carmona MBA NIC ED:K-12

Born and raised in Ontario, Canada, Gail relocated to California in 2000 and began working as a sign language interpreter in K–12 educational settings and for the State of California’s Department of Rehabilitation.

Her work later expanded to include interpreting at colleges and universities as well as in the cruise industry. She served as an Evaluator for the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) for eight years and was a member of RID’s Educational Interpreter Task Force. In 2008, Gail founded Central Coast Sign Language Interpreters LLC—now CCSLI INC—which provides interpreting services across California and nationally recognized interpreter training programs. In 2018, she developed the Sign Language Interpreter – Skills Evaluation (SLI-SE), a professional assessment tool for interpreters. She continues to serve as an Evaluator for the SLI-SE and is an active member of CASLI (formerly AVLIC) and CIT.

Instructor: Angela Casanave, NIC, Ed:K-12

Angela comes to CCSLI Center with over 20 years of experience in educational, community, VRS, and trilingual interpreting. Her work across South America, the U.S., and Central Europe brings a unique international perspective.

She is passionate about interpreter development and has recently contributed to Croatian Sign Language educational materials and training initiatives—efforts that reflect her ongoing commitment to elevating the field and supporting interpreters around the globe.

Instructor: Ronald Thomas CDI:

Ronald is a RID/NAD Certified Deaf Interpreter, and Deaf Heritage speaker. He has accumulated a diverse portfolio in many fields in the role of a CDI in the medical field, as well as at state conferences, and sight translation.

In 2019, he trained at the Protactile from Deafblind Interpreter Institute.  Up to today, he continues to practice his profession as an CDI for the Deaf community in the medical field, as well as at state conventions.
